playing with orly cosmic fx

this post is to show you how i played around a bit with the orly cosmic fx collection while i had it :)

i mattified space cadet with china glaze's matte magic.  it was not my favorite look, but it was definitely cool to try out.  metallics always look like rough concrete when mattified!  and the duochrome was super apparent.

i also mattified it's not rocket science with matte magic. this one was really cool looking when it was matte, very earthy and cool. if manglaze ever makes a matte green, i hope it's something like this.

i decided to do some comparison shots of a few of the polishes from this collection so here is the polish i had the most requests for a dupe post on, halley's comet.  i compared it to zoya's charla which is from their summer sparkle collection.  they're pretty much right on the money look-a-likes.  i think if you had one, you probably wouldn't need the other.

i also did a comparison between lunar eclipse and sally hansen's hd polish in laser.  i don't think these are full on dupes, but they are mighty close.  laser is a tad lighter and less pigmented, i also used one more coat for the laser nails than the lunar nails.

the next comparison i did is between out of this world and zoya's julieanne, and i did these as full swatch pic comparisons so it's a bit different than the comparison above unfortunately but it is what it is.  i would say OOTW is a tad brighter purple than julieanne but honestly it was a different day and different lighting conditions when i swatched them so i can't be positive.

anyway, i'm not saying one way or another, so hopefully you'll make up your own minds whether you think you need these all or not :)  they're all excellent products and i'm happy i got to try them!

some of the products were sent to me for review purposes. please see disclosure statement for more information.

orly cosmic fx collection part 2

here are the second set of swatches from the cosmic fx (also called cosmix) collection from orly.

space cadet is hot hot hot. and as my friend niki would say, it's made of awesome!  this lacquer is super metallic.  it's got a green base with purple and gold fx.  the most obvious color is purple but at the edges, the gold is almost always evident.  the swampy green base is what makes this polish the most duochromey of the bunch.  really head-turning and unique.  i would recommend if you just got one polish out of this collection, to get this one!

galaxy girl is another uber awesome polish. it's described as purple with blue green fx. it looks to me like it has a super dark maroony purple base with a flash of teal duochrome. it reminds me of beetle wings!  this is three coats.  and i think it is close to misa's embroidered enamel and urban decay's bruised, but since i don't have either, i won't be able to compare it them--although in pictures, galaxy girl looks darker and more metallic.

halley's comet is so cute! very summery!  this gal is glass flecked and glitzy. i love the turquoise color. orly says this is combined with green and yellow fx and i can definitely detect both in the polish bottle, but they blend more on the nail. i used three coats for total opacity.  i'll be doing a comparison post on this and zoya's charla soon.

from press release:  "The Cosmix FX lacquers will be available starting September 2010 for $10.00 each.  Available at orlybeauty.com, Sally Beauty, Ulta and other purveyors of beauty throughout the US and in over 70 countries worldwide."  i happen to know they are being sold right now online at transdesign.com for $5 and some other sites.  have a look around :)

soooooo....what's the consensus?  are there any polishes from this collection that particularly caught your eye?  i think my favorite has to be a tie between space cadet and it's not rocket science.  what i like the most about this collection is that all the lacquers dry SUPER fast and they dry SUPER smooth.  that is a plus because at first glance they look like they might be rough and chunky, but that is not the case.  they also remove really easily, not like glitters but like a typical shimmer polish.  are you going to pick any of these up?

orly cosmic fx collection part 1

out of this world is described as "purple with pink silver fx". i would say the pink isn't terribly apparent in this one, the silver is more outwardly visible as the major shimmer color. but the pink is there alright as you can see, more in the bottle shots than on the nail. in real life, i could see the pink at different angles, only indoors. this polish along with most of the others in this collection have a distinct foil-like finish on them and it is awesome! i would compare this to zoya julieanne, not sure if it's a dupe or not - there will be a comparison post soon.

lunar eclipse is labeled by orly as "blue with pink purple fx". i was not expecting much when i saw this in the bottle, ho hum another blue, but when i had it on, i really loved it. the pink and purple "fx" really make it stand out. it really just GLOWS. royal bright blue and glitzy glam! and the closest dupe i can think of would be sally hansen's new HD polish in laser, i'll do a comparison soon.

it's not rocket science is called "green with gold blue fx". this color is the first one i wore as a full mani (so these pictures have a coat of poshe over them). it seems to be very comparable to china glaze's halloween polish zombie zest and possibly sparitual's optical illusion? but having neither of them (yet haha), i cannot make a definitive comparison. this polish is a knock-your-socks off golden olive grassy rotten egg green and i LOVE it. micro glitter feel to the finish, but absolutely smooth. and it had kind of a darkened look to the edges once i had it on my nails. epic.
