Rescue Beauty Lounge Pre-Fall Collection L'Oiseau de Feu: Swatches & Review

Rescue Beauty Lounge announces L’Oiseau de Feu, Ji Baek’s Pre-Fall collection inspired by the metamorphosis of colors brought on by Hurricane Earl.

“During my St. Barts vacation last August, I felt a frantic energy that I had never before witnessed in that familiar, peaceful paradise. There were scattered chaotic rhythms of energy as Hurricane Earl approached. As the storm unfolded, my inner dramatic stage director’s heart started to beat to the rhythms of Igor Stravinsky’s L’Oiseau de Feu (The Fire Bird). The honking brass section mirrored the hysteria on the island and the wind started to howl irksomely, just like Stravinsky’s French horns and bassoons. I peeked out the door and was mesmerized by the colors of a romantic and moody sky.”

“I envisioned my first color—Pizzicato—inspired by the gentle tiny taps of rain droplets as they hit the tin roof, reminiscent of plucked strings. A misty white with the faintest hint of lavender, Pizzicato has a shimmer that acts like prisms of light in a sun shower.”

“When the wind picked up, I saw Poco a poco, “little by little.” This is a shade that changes from moment to moment. It’s the stunning, sparkling pink of a fanning cloud when the red and orange rays of the sun are trying to burst through.”

“Later, the ominous dark clouds bled into the sky with a fast-moving wind. Piú Mosso is an inky, blue-black that shoots through a flash of orange, the last glow of sunlight.”

“At last, when the light left the sky and the wind started to roar, the sky turned into a shade beyond description—a dark greenish, blackish, brown, leading to a powerful Fortissimo, the finale chord of The Fire Bird.”

“Although the L’Oiseau de Feu collection was created before I had the chance to observe anything on the runway, I couldn’t help but notice that my colors go perfectly with the fall 2011 clothes. Yes, the styles are definitely varied—there are graphics, circles, statement coats, the ubiquitous red lips, a sea of winter whites—but what caught my eye immediately was the reformed punk with a touch of luxe grunge, especially in the fur-lined parkas and romantic, gothic silhouettes from Alexander McQueen, Junya Watanabe, Rick Owens, Haider Ackermann and Altuzarra.”

“We’re not out of the woods just yet. Euros and gas prices are escalating wildly. It’s an unequivocal time to go shop in your closet and give your clothes a face-lift with some alterations: shorten some old hems, sleeves and rehab your boots. Juxtapose the trend of hard and soft lines; these four new colors will make any wardrobe, old or new, instantly runway-worthy.” - Ji Baek

Let me begin my review by telling you all what a pleasure it is to be able to unveil the new nail lacquers for Rescue Beauty Lounge! I have been so excited about the opportunity to introduce these to you all, they really are amazing and RBL is such an amazing brand that I have long admired and been a fan of. Ji is truly a creative virtuoso and her inspiration for this collection is really inspired. I love the musical influence she was motivated from.

Pizzicato was the first lacquer I tried from the collection when I received it. It appeared to be a finish I'd never seen from RBL before, a glass fleck perhaps? When I put it on I saw it as a magical micro-glitter/shimmer that look like ice crystals floating in the pale white lavender polish. I assumed this one would be sheer, but it covered beautifully in two coats. The slightly thicker texture helped I think.

Poco a Poco is a stunning rose pink with gorgeous copper/orange glaze shimmer. This shimmer is so sexy and wearable. I found this to be the most demure color and probably a shade I had wished for unconsciously in the past, actually! It's one of those shades you could always see yourself wearing. On a night out or during the day to day. It's a little on the thick side so two coats will do you fine.

Piú Mosso is right at home in this collection, a perfect representation of inky blue skies and shards of sunlight peeking through nebulous clouds. The formula and shimmer make me think of another group of lacquers from RBL though, can you guess which one? The Real Housewives of the Tudor Dynasty! I think this might be a missing housewife! Anywive, this polish practically painted itself on, a dreamy, almost purpley, navy blue crème with silky copper shimmer. Très chic! This would be a one coater, but I used two just for consistency's sake.

Fortissimo is a bold and foreboding crème that gives off a ridiculously sophisticated air. This polish is just unbelievably sexy and swank. The dark brown color is really beautiful and that hint of green makes it just brown enough to know it's not black. I couldn't believe how much I loved this on me. This is two coats.

I hope you enjoyed the swatches and review! Please let me know what you think in the comments section :) Once again, I am so happy to be able to show you these polishes, thank you to Ji Baek and to Rescue Beauty Lounge for the opportunity to share these with my readers. These should be available in late August or early September! Have a great day beauties!!

Edit: These will go on pre-sale around the end of July!
