Everyone went crazy for this flaky red jelly polish when it came out for Holiday '10 from Barielle. Including me. Unfortunately, I found Elle's Spell to be glue-y and hard to apply, and rather boring on the nail. You may disagree but it just looks 1 billion times better in the bottle to me than actually on the nail. *sigh*
Have any nail lacquers you were lusting after caused you disappointment after you bought them? It doesn't happen to me often, and it's pretty sad times when it does.

I think that looks really pretty! But I do agree, better in the bottle. I bought Zoya "Lulu" because I saw a gorgeous peachy swatch on someone else, but when I got it, it just looked sickly and awful. Very disappointing. Yet another reason why proper nail polish swatches are so great! :-)

ReplyDeleteI bought this and jess' champagne toast and they both look gorgeous in the bottle, but not so good on nails. It's a shame, they would be fantastic if they looked as good as they do in the bottle.

ReplyDeleteMaybe it's because I had even bigger disappointments with flakie polishes...And it was a red one. Elle's Spell looks like perfection to my eyes <3
It seems most flakies are a pain to apply:/

ReplyDeleteLayer it over black. But yeah, I sooooo needed to have Milani Ruby Jewels right when it came out, and I finally got it and... it's super boring. I don't get why everyone raves about it, it looks like about six other red glitter polishes I own.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely know what you mean. This happened to me a few times, especially with a few BB Coutures. But not with Elle´s Spell and I don´t even like red, but I love this one. And it looks gorgeous on you!

ReplyDeletePeachy Keen by China Glaze was one of my biggest disappointments. So pretty and peachy in the bottle but just flat out orange on my nail. sad. Actually I had the same problem with Essies Tart Deco... Maybe it's just my skin tone or something...
ReplyDeleteI think that such a pretty polish. There are quite a few polishes that look better in the bottle. I can't think of one that I was disappointed in right now. I have neuropathy in my feet (numbness & pain) and it's been acting up for the past two weeks. I've been getting about 4 hours of broken sleep a night. So with all that I can't remember things with having broken sleep. I haven't even been reading blogs much. I'm sure there are some polishes that I've worn that I was disappointed with. Sorry to take up so much time here.

ReplyDeleteUsually the ones that gives me that feeling are those dark blue or purple with awesome shimmer in the bottle but it does not reflect that when on the nail. Almost plain black is what they look like. DO NOT WANT!

Orly Royal Navy and OPI Dating A Royal sucked for me. I was gutted! I swatched them once, suppressed the urge to cry, and got rid of them both as quickly as possible :(
ReplyDeleteAll the Sally Hansen HDs and Ultra HDs look better in the bottle, since they are so darned sheer and need 20 coats! But I do not give up easily, now I just layer them over a similar opaque polish so I just need one or maybe two coats of the HD. I'd do the same if I had this one, layer it for interesting effects!
